Last Night
Last night I cheated,
But it was not on you,
I cheated on my self-worth,
Cracked my virtue in two.
You want me to move on,
That's something I can't do,
But I'll go through the motions,
Till I'm broken – black and blue.
This self-destruction,
Has only just begun,
But I will do a thorough job,
So your boy's really gone.
Last night I cheated,
My lies were quick and crude,
I gave away my body,
Though my soul belongs to you.
My eyes have left my smile,
My lips have been defiled.
Last night my demons huddled next to me,
They promised a life without the pain and misery.
I slipped under the covers, removing my regret,
I gave in to living numb and losing all that's left.
I still remember the window open to signal me that it is safe to climb,
You hush me with your lips so your parents will not find
Our promises of love, you are forever mine.
My eyes have left my smile,
My lips have been defiled.
Last night I cheated my memory of you,
I left the window open as I slipped out of her room.
